The best way to keep your valuables safe is to invest in a safe-deposit box or a
secure
home safe
- preferably something that is too heavy to be moved. When buying a safe make sure
it is fireproof. However if you don’t want to invest in a safe there are inexpensive
alternatives that can minimise the chance of your possessions being stolen.
- If you have a ceiling with tiles and a void above, remove a tile and restore it
afterwards with magnetic fasteners or similar. Try not to leave any finger marks.
- Drill down the leg of an upturned chair to hollow out a leg. Cap all the legs with
rubber tips.
- Avoid obvious places such as drawers under carpets, inside figurines, mattresses
and behind pictures.
- Find out whether your local police department offers a program that includes a home
inspection. They can offer advice on preventative measures such as using special
ultra-violet marking pens to code a number or note your address on your possessions
or the use of an engraving tool.
