Outdoor Yard Security Lighting
Well positioned outside security yard lighting can prove highly effective for your
home security and it’s a well known fact that it is an invaluable deterrent against
intruders. Almost any lighting will improve your home security but correctly positioned
lighting will considerably reduce the chance of a break-in.
It is important to plan the installation for your exterior yard security lighting
in order to improve its effectiveness. Typically, they are installed near doorways
and at the rear of your property as break-ins usually occur at the rear. Be sure
to position the lighting so it illuminates the darkest regions of your yard or garden.
Make sure the lighting is installed high up and out of reach and is tamper proof.
It is advised to purchase yard security lighting that incorporates a motion detector
sensor. These will immediately switch on when movement is detected, thus illuminating
your entire yard. It is also desirable to buy a unit that has an override facility
so that the light can be switched on whenever you want it to – and left on for however
long you like. These units are now relatively inexpensive so cost is no longer an
issue.
Other types of exterior lighting incorporate a timer which can be set to go on or
off at set times of the day, as required. These are not quite so effective as an
intruder who is watching your property will get to know the times the lighting switches
on and off.
Exterior lighting can be installed to the front of your property to not only improve
your home security, but to provide a welcome-home light that will switch on as you
pull up onto your driveway. It would also be pleasant to provide front lighting
for guests, friends and neighbors when they come to visit.
