Home Security Guard
If you have a security guard in attendance at your apartment block you can use this
to your own advantage. If you get to know them well there is a good chance they
will keep an extra eye on your apartment and monitor the visitors to your apartment.
It’s wise to tell the security guard to never let anyone into your apartment without
your knowledge or permission.
It’s also good idea to let the security guard know when you are going on vacation
and be suspicious of anybody who turns up wanting to get into your apartment.
If you don’t think the security guard is up to scratch and not looking out for the
inhabitants of the apartment block then contact the landlord or security company
and make a complaint. After all, it’s your building and you are paying for that
security guard with your rent.
If you don’t have a security guard in your apartment block then consider petitioning
your neighbors to get one employed. Even if it increases your rent, it will be worth
it if or peace of mind and security. Primarily, security guards provide a invaluable
visual deterrent as well as to deal with incidents if they occur. Your block will
be far safer with one.
As well as a security guard to protect and look out for your apartment there is
someone else right on your doorstep that may be able to help. Besides collecting
your mail when you are on vacation, your neighbour can help keep an eye out for
suspicious behaviour by strangers and unfamiliar people wandering around the block.
Get your neighbor them to alert the authorities if they suspect unscrupulous characters
are in the building. If you are gone for a while then leave a key with your neighbour
and ask them if they could periodically check on your apartment
Obviously, they will appreciate you offering to return the favour, thus keeping
an eye on each others apartments.
The more you get to know people in the building the more they will be aware of who
is coming and going and it will be easier to spot suspicious “visitors”. It’s good
to make the effort to meet people and build a good rapport with your neighbors.
Consider setting up your own neighborhood watch committee to look out for each other
and to monitor the comings and goings into your apartment block.
